CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Rev. Corine Mack, president of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg NAACP, is calling for action following reports of racist text messages involving Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers.

According to WBTV’s October 14 reporting, sources said the messages included officers competing and bragging about stopping Black residents. Six officers were cited for termination, while others resigned.

Mack is urging that the officers be fired and referred to the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission for possible decertification, which could prevent them from working for another police department. She also called for stronger screening of officers to help address racial bias within the department.

In an emailed response reported by Axios Charlotte, CMPD neither confirmed nor denied the specific allegations but reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, professionalism and community trust.
